My mind is constantly running a mile a minute. Often times I find that I don't always fully enjoy what I'm doing because my mind is already on to what is next. One of the best places for me to quiet my mind and be in the moment is whenever I visit Fontana di Trevi (the Trevi Fountain) while in Rome. The beauty of this place is astonishing, and the people watching is second to none. However, even with the loud gush of water drowning out all of the voices, each voice speaking a different language, it is still an over-crowded busy mess.
If you are trying to find a way to beat the crowds, my recommendation, visit the Trevi Fountain in the early morning hours. Visit this masterpiece around 1am after an evening out, or start the day very early at 5am. The Trevi will be peaceful and possibly even more beautiful. It is all lit up, and best of all-- you will be just about the only ones there. Even better-- this private exhibit is totally free! And, you'll be very safe with plenty of security keeping a watchful eye on the precious sculptures. If you love to test your photography skills, this is also a fantastic time to set up your tripod and take some great shots.
Trusted Travel Girl Tip: Don't forget to turn around, close your eyes and toss a coin in while you make a wish. Legend has it that tossing a coin into the fountain will guarantee your return to 'La Cittå Eterna' (The Eternal City). Many come to the Trevi to toss a coin, however not everyone knows the rules. The first rule; you must toss the coin with your right hand over your left shoulder. Make sure that your first wish is to come back to Rome. Throwing in a second coin will not only get you a return trip to Rome, but also an exciting new romance. three, you'll return, find love, and marry. (Sometimes I make up my own wishes after the first one) The fountain contains quite the collection of international coins tossed by travelers wishing to return to this distinctly romantic and wonderful spot in Rome. The fountain has never failed to grant me that first wish... I always seem to find a way to return to my favorite city.
Bonus tip: Around the corner, is one of my favorite gelato shops, the Gelateria San Crispino.
