Where Did Your Lost Luggage Go

Have you ever lost a piece of luggage while traveling to never be reunited with it, ever again? It's an unfortunate reality for some travelers. Most of us have had an item temporarily lost by an airline at some point, and it is certainly stressful to wonder if you will ever see it again.

But, have you ever wondered where all of that lost luggage goes when it is not reunited with its owner? Contrary to popular belief, lost luggage does not end up with the missing socks that never find their way out of the dryer. Your lost luggage actually may have made its way all the way to Alabama (Yes, Alabama!).

It turns out that in Scottsboro, Alabama there is a store that is actually making a profit off of your misdirected and allegedly lost luggage. The Unclaimed Baggage Center is like a Walmart meets Goodwill, at 40,000 square feet it takes up over a city block and has three levels.

Their website boasts "We are the only store in America that buys and sells Unclaimed Baggage from airlines. Come and see why we are one of Alabama’s top shopping and tourist attractions, hosting nearly a million visitors each year. With thousands of items arriving in our store every day, you never know what you’ll find!". Perhaps you will find something you previously owned, and you may now have the opportunity to re-buy your very own used items! Those with bag baggage karma, fear not, there is still hope for a reunion with your items at The Unclaimed Baggage Center.

My guess is that half of the luggage that comes into this store has luggage tags that would help these lost little guys find their way back to their rightful owners. I'm also willing to bet an airline that you have traveled with recently, sells to this company. When we contacted, The Unclaimed Baggage Store they declined to comment or return our call.

Here's to hoping that your bags always make it safely back to you and never make it to this store.
