What I Wish I knew About Making Money as a Travel Blogger
This post was written in partnership with SoFi. All opinions and thoughts expressed in this post are my own, as always.
The life of a travel blogger sounds amazing on paper. And in many ways, it is. But what a lot of people fail to realize about being a travel blogger is that this job encompasses so much more than just traveling and blogging.
Travel bloggers wear many different hats. We don’t just make money through our blogs, we have to diversify our income streams if we want to have any semblance of financial stability.
Things I Wish I Knew Sooner About Making Money as a Travel Blogger
The key to your financial success as a travel blogger isn’t in how many destination campaigns and sponsored posts you get. If 2020 taught us anything, it’s that travel bloggers need to establish multiple streams of income if they want financial security. To be honest, I wish this was something I knew when I first started my travel blogging journey.
As a travel blogger, you’re a business owner, and you do not have an employer-sponsored 401k and pension account. This is why I use SoFi to learn about the latest stock trends, helping me invest and prepare for a financially secure future.
Using the SoFi App to Help Me Invest
Look, I’ll be the first to admit how little I knew about investing. I know I should’ve done it sooner but I just didn’t know how to. Thankfully, the SoFi app makes it so easy for me and others who don’t know a thing about investing.
SoFi is an all-in-one investing platform where you can buy stocks, ETFs, trade crypto, or start automated investing all in one app. Not only does this make investing incredibly accessible for newer investors like myself, but it also helps me feel more confident with how I’m setting my financial future up as a travel blogger.
The SoFi app comes in handy as it has introduced me to the world of financial investing with ease and confidence. I’ve since diversified my income through my investments in companies I believe in.
Disclosure: Diversification can help reduce some investment risk. However, it cannot guarantee profit nor fully protect in a down market.
Other Ways to Diversify Your Income Stream as a Travel Blogger
What you know about making a living as a travel blogger is true. We do get paid to write sponsored blog posts (like this one to Mendocino), sponsored social media content, and brand partnerships. However, these jobs don’t come very easily at the beginning of your travel blogging career.
Unless you’re planning to juggle your 9-5 while working on your travel blog on the side, you’re going to need to find another way to generate some income. To be honest, most established travel bloggers offer work like photography and content creation in addition to their sponsored blog content as a means to make money.
Things to Consider Before Becoming a Travel Blogger
As glamorous as the “travel blogging” side of the job description is, what you know of making money as a travel blogger is just the tip of the iceberg. In fact, what happens below the surface is a lot of different streams of income. Learning how to invest with SoFi has been a game-changer for me, as it allows me to diversify my investments with little to no effort. Whether you’re an established blogger or you’re brand new to the scene, considering the many ways in which you can establish several revenue streams is one of the safest ways to approach your financial future.
Diversification can help reduce some investment risk. However, it cannot guarantee profit nor fully protect in a down market.
