Why Kenya? Why This Safari?
Kenya is one of the most spectacular places on earth, and the Maasai Mara is its crown jewel.
Golden plains stretch endlessly across the savannah, wildlife roams freely across the landscape, and the traditions of the Maasai people remain deeply woven into daily life.
This is Africa at its most iconic.
Our safari takes place in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy, a protected wildlife area bordering the famous Maasai Mara National Reserve.
Unlike the national park, conservancies strictly limit the number of camps and vehicles allowed within the area. The result is a quieter, more intimate safari experience with exceptional wildlife viewing and far fewer vehicles around sightings.
Being in a conservancy also allows for more flexibility during game drives, including off-road wildlife tracking and sunset drives that extend beyond the park hours.
Just as importantly, conservancies directly support local Maasai communities and wildlife conservation.
This means your visit helps protect both the wildlife and the people who have stewarded this land for generations.

Day 3 – Fly to the Maasai Mara

Upon arrival we transfer to Olare Mara Kempinski Safari Camp and settle in before our first evening game drive.
Our safari adventure begins!
Day 4 – Maasai Mara Safari
Morning: game drives explore the Olare Motorogi Conservancy, one of the most wildlife-rich areas in Kenya.
Afternoon: Walking Safari (optional)
Between drives you can relax at camp or simply watch the wildlife move across the savannah.
Evening: Late afternoon/evening game drive
Day 5 – Maasai Mara Safari
Another full day exploring the Mara.
Every day on safari is different, and wildlife sightings are often completely unpredictable.
Morning: Game Drive
Late Morning: Visit to Mara Trust where you can meet the real Maasai
“We guarantee that you will return inspired, uplifted and enthused. And that you will come away with a delightful insight into the real Maasai community.
Perched high on a hill in the centre of the Conservancy, the Trust works to ensure the long-term success of the Maasai Mara ecosystem by working in close partnership with the Maasai community. And, by using the proceeds of a small levy, which is contributed by all the camps in the Conservancy, The Trust is able to make profound improvements in the lives of the Maasai people themselves. What’s more – they are the improvements that the Maasai people themselves have asked for.
Quite apart from promising you a glorious game drive to and from the Trust, which is a simply-built community centre set atop a panoramic ridge, this unique visit also offers you a wonderful opportunity to meet with the ladies of the Maasai community, all of whom use this centre as a place to carry out their traditional beadwork. The centre also has its own shop offering a glorious array of expertly designed and exquisitely executed leather and beadwork – jewellery, handbags, tote bags, photograph albums, key-rings, belts, dog collars… and much, much more. This is THE ideal shopping opportunity. What’s more you can meet the ladies who actually made the items you purchase.
Best of all, by purchasing these products you will be helping a Maasai lady to, for instance: pay for the education of her girl children, buy her own water tank, buy her own solar electricity kit or buy her own seeds. You can also help the Trust in providing practical training to the young men of the community – in such areas as mechanics, building or carpentry. Proceeds from this wonderful project also go towards sinking wells, providing sanitation and building simple health clinics.
This is a joyous visit, a chance for some unique cultural exchange in a totally relaxed setting. You are guaranteed a great deal of laughter and some stunning photo-opportunities.
The visit will take around three hours in total and your vehicle will be equipped with chilled drinks and snacks. Take your camera.”
Afternoon: Evening Game Drive
Evenings are spent enjoying dinner at camp and sharing stories from the day’s adventures.
Day 6 – Final Safari Day
Our final full day in the Mara offers more opportunities to explore this extraordinary ecosystem. Watch the light change across the plains and savor your final moments immersed in the African wilderness.
Morning: Game Drive
Afternoon: Tree Planting Experience
During our time in the Maasai Mara, guests will take part in a meaningful conservation initiative that contributes directly to the preservation of this extraordinary landscape. As part of the experience, each guest will plant a tree within the conservancy as part of an ongoing effort to restore and protect the Mara ecosystem.
Your tree will be marked with your name, creating a personal connection to the land and a lasting contribution to the environment. Long after the journey ends, it will continue to grow here in the Mara, supporting native habitats and biodiversity. Should you return in the years ahead, you will be able to visit the tree you planted and see the living legacy you left behind.
It is a small but powerful way to give back to a place that gives so much, ensuring the sweeping plains, abundant wildlife, and natural beauty of the Maasai Mara continue to thrive for generations to come.
Evening: Game Drive and our farewell bush dinner. (weather dependent)

Limited Accommodations
Our accommodations on this trip were chosen very intentionally. Both properties offer a beautiful balance of comfort, style, and an intimate atmosphere that feels far removed from large resorts.
In Nairobi, rooms can be arranged with either two separate beds or one shared bed depending on your preference.
In the Maasai Mara, the camp features spacious luxury tents with oversized beds designed for two guests. These beds are larger than a traditional king and are incredibly comfortable, making them ideal for couples or close friends traveling together.
Because this is a small, boutique safari camp with a limited number of tents, we only have a set number of rooms available for solo travelers. Guests joining the trip with a friend or partner are encouraged to book the shared room option so we can accommodate as many travelers as possible while preserving the intimate feel of the camp.

What meals are included?
All meals and snacks are included on safari days
Daily breakfast and a welcome dinner are included in Nairobi
Will there be free time to explore on my own?
Yes, while the itinerary is structured for a full experience, there will be downtime at the lodges for relaxation.
What is the food like on safari?
Olare Mara Kempinski offers gourmet multi-course meals, with vegetarian and other dietary options available upon request.
What’s the difference between a conservancy and the National Park?
The Maasai Mara National Reserve is one of the most famous wildlife destinations in the world, but the private conservancies surrounding it offer a more intimate and exclusive safari experience.
Conservancies strictly limit the number of camps and vehicles allowed in the area, which means far fewer vehicles around wildlife sightings and a much quieter safari environment. Instead of dozens of vehicles gathering around animals, you often have the experience almost entirely to yourself.
Because conservancies are privately managed conservation areas, guides are also allowed greater flexibility during game drives. This can include off-road tracking of wildlife and sunset drives that extend later into the evening—experiences that are not permitted inside the national park.
Another important difference is that conservancies directly support the local Maasai community. The land is leased from Maasai landowners, and tourism revenue helps provide sustainable income, jobs, and conservation funding for the surrounding communities who help protect the wildlife and land.
The result is a safari that feels both more exclusive and more meaningful—offering exceptional wildlife viewing while also supporting the people and ecosystems that make the Maasai Mara so special.
Do I need any vaccinations?
A yellow fever vaccine is highly recommended (and mandatory if you are flying from certain countries). Check with your doctor for the latest recommendations.
Is there Wi-Fi at the lodges?
Yes, both Villa Rosa and Olare Mara offer wi-fi, though speeds may vary in remote areas.
Do I need a Visa?
Yes. You must do your E-visa in advance. Here is a visa link to the official government site for your visa.
Is travel insurance required?
All Travel Girl Trips require you to purchase your own insurance plan. I suggest Travel Guard.
Is tipping required?
Tipping is not included but is customary for guides and staff. A tipping guide will be provided.
What is the luggage allowance for domestic flights?
Safarilink flights have a soft-sided bag limit of 15kg (33 lbs) per person, including carry-on.
Is there laundry service?
Yes, laundry service is available at olare mara kempinski every day free of charge, and in Nairobi for a fee.
What Should I pack?
A packing guide will be provided, but essentials include neutral-colored clothing, comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, and a good camera.
Will I have access to drinking water?
Yes, filtered drinking water is available at all accommodations, and a reusable water bottle is recommended.
Can I bring a drone?
No, drones are not permitted in the Kenya and the Maasai Mara unless you have special government permission.
What are the bathroom facilities like at the safari camp?
Each luxury tent at Olare Mara kempinski has a private en-suite bathroom with hot showers and flushing toilets.
How early should I arrive in Nairobi?
We recommend arriving by the afternoon so you can freshen up for our welcome dinner.
How will we get from the airport to the hotel? What are our options?
Airport transfers are not included in the main trip package so that you have flexibility if you choose to arrive early, extend your stay, or make plans independently while in Nairobi.
If you would like a seamless arrival, private airport transfers can be added in either direction for an additional cost ($120 USD each way per car). This option will arrange for a trusted driver to meet you at the airport and take you directly to the Kempinski.
If you choose to arrange transportation on your own, we recommend booking a reputable car service in advance through the hotel concierge or another professional provider rather than relying on airport taxis.
Can I leave a larger checked bag at the hotel in Nairobi if I’m traveling before/after Kenya and need more items?
Yes, it is possible to leave a larger suitcase or any items you won’t need on safari at the hotel in Nairobi while we are in the Maasai Mara. The hotel can securely store luggage during our time at camp.
That said, it’s still strongly recommended that you do your best to pack within the safari luggage weight limits whenever possible, especially if you are continuing on to other destinations after the trip. Packing lighter will make the bush flight and transfers much easier.
What route or airline should I take to arrive in Nairobi given the current geopolitical situation?
Travelers are responsible for selecting the airline and route that they feel most comfortable with based on current conditions at the time of booking and travel. Airline routes and airspace availability can change, and each traveler may have different preferences when it comes to airlines, layovers, and flight paths.
We recommend monitoring travel advisories, reviewing airline routing, and choosing the option that best aligns with your personal comfort level. As long as you arrive in Nairobi by the designated trip start time, the specific route and airline you choose are entirely up to you.
